Tavaughn Bulgin, 21, his 26-year-old brother Tavaris Bulgin, and two friends dived from the bridge that connects Edgartown and Oak Bluffs just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, but only two resurfaced, officials said. Jumping from the bridge is a popular pastime on Martha's Vineyard.
The Bulgin brothers are Jamaican nationals who were seasonal workers at a restaurant on Martha's Vineyard. They were renting a home at the Oak Bluffs, police said.
The men are the sons of Jackie Bulgin and her husband, Pastor Keith Bulgin of Palmers Cross New Testament Church of God in Jamacia. Vaughn and Tavaris have two sisters, Tavanny and Tavana, according to the Jamacia Observer.
Family friend Omar George posted about the community's grief on social media.
"These two boys are like my blood sons," he wrote on Facebook. "I loved them so much. I know them from birth. They are good, godly, smart, jovial, crazy, full of life, and talented individuals."
The bridge is a popular tourist destination because of its connection to the famous Steven Spielberg movie, and jumping from it is a common pastime. Though, most locals warn against jumping at night.
